Cookies

This site sets no cookies until you say yes.

One question, asked once, and the answer is remembered. If you say no or ignore it, nothing is set. This page lists every cookie, what it is for, and how long it lasts. You can change your answer from the footer of any page.

Effective 14 September 2026. Questions: privacy@citeunseen.io.

Before you answer

Until you press Allow analytics, this site sets no cookie of any kind. The Google Analytics tag is not in the page; our own script fetches it only after a yes. You can confirm this in your browser's network panel before answering.

One script does load before you answer. Cloudflare Web Analytics is fetched from static.cloudflareinsights.com on every page and reports a page view to cloudflareinsights.com. It stores nothing on your device (no cookie, no local storage) and does not try to recognise you across sites, so it is not behind the question. Cloudflare already serves every page here, so it learns nothing it did not already know. A content blocker stops it without breaking anything on this site.

Declining is stored, so you are not asked again. Dismissing the banner or pressing Escape counts as no.

If you say yes

Allowing analytics loads Google Analytics 4 from googletagmanager.com and lets it set two cookies on this domain:

NameWhat it holdsHow long
_gaA random client identifier that tells one browser from another. It holds no name, address or email, and we never join it to your account.2 years
_ga_3CT4PG2NTDThe same, scoped to this property, plus the state of the current visit so a later page is not counted as a new arrival.2 years

It tells us which pages people read and where they came from. Our own rubric check MR-02 asks whether a site can tell an answer engine's referral from other traffic, and without analytics we could not.

Google signals is switched off, so no data is shared for cross-device or advertising audiences. There is no remarketing tag, advertising pixel, session recorder or heat map, with consent or without. Google's own terms govern what it does with the request it receives, and we do not control that.

If you sign in

If you sign in at your audits to find a report you paid for, Clerk, our authentication service, sets a session cookie named __session to keep you signed in between pages.

It is strictly necessary: without it you cannot see your own report. It does not track you across sites, is not used for advertising, and is not read outside the account area. Under the ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR such cookies do not require consent, so the banner does not ask about it. Signing out or clearing the cookie removes it.

Two keys in local storage

This site writes two keys to localStorage, nothing to sessionStorage or IndexedDB, and uses no fingerprinting.

theme holds light or dark and is written only when you use the light and dark control in the header. consent holds granted or denied, your answer to the banner. Neither holds an identifier or is sent to us or anyone else, and clearing your site data removes both.

Clearing consent brings the question back but does not remove cookies Google already set; see below.

Changing your mind

Cookie settings in the footer of every page reopens the same question with the same two buttons. Withdrawing takes one press, the same as agreeing.

Choosing No thanks after a yes stops further collection immediately. It cannot delete the two Google cookies already in your browser, so to remove them, clear cookies or site data for this domain in your browser settings. Any privacy tool you already run will also remove them.

What changed

Until 14 September 2026 this site set no non-essential cookies. The earlier version of this page promised that if that changed, a real consent mechanism would arrive with it and this page would say so the same day. The consent mechanism went in first, and the tag does not load without it. The privacy page covers everything else we hold, where it goes, and how to have it deleted.
